Luigi Rossanigo was born in 1948 in Pieve del Cairo (Pavia), Italy, in the lower Lomellina region, where Lombardy and Piedmont merge in terms of orography, history, and culture. He still lives and works there today.
His first engagement with painting—and to a lesser extent, sculpture—dates back to the mid-1960s, with figurative subjects. A few years later, in the early 1970s, he shifted toward Informalism, beginning a spatial exploration whose results would fully emerge twenty years later.
During the rest of the 1970s, following a brief period influenced by Arte Povera, and throughout the 1980s, his focus turned to the development of surrealist themes in painting, graphics, and sculpture, with notable results for their originality and clarity of sign.
From 1988 onward, his interaction with artists from Carrara—particularly Luciano Massari—led him decisively toward sculpture. This acquired familiarity with sculptural mass allowed him to revisit his earlier experiments with canvas manipulation (from the 1970s), giving rise to his current expressive approach: analytical and objective, where painting and sculpture intersect.
It was in 1989 that the first spatial estroflexions emerged, where color, space, and form began to reflect, through a long process of study and research, the pictorial path he continues to follow today.
