Eugenio Cerrato was born in Gravellona Toce (Italy) in 1947 and, at the age of six, moved with his family to Oleggio, where he still resides.
After completing classical high school, he began studying Political Science, a path he later set aside to help his parents with their family business. A thoughtful reader of both classical and contemporary literature and a profound connoisseur of art history, Cerrato began his creative journey at a young age, though he refrained from exhibiting his work publicly for several years.
From the early 1990s onward, his exhibition calendar became regular, and to date he has participated in over 150 solo and group shows in Italy and abroad.
In 1998, he purchased and renovated a small space called Eugenesi, which for the past 25 years has served as his studio, exhibition room, and a welcoming place for conversation with visitors.
For years, Cerrato has carried out a distinctive artistic research aimed at giving his work a unique and personal identity—always marked by refined psychological textures, subtle irony, and formal decontextualizations rich with literary references both ancient and modern.
Maria Paola Arbeia described his work with the following words, which the artist particularly cherishes:
