Francesca Leoni trained at the Istituto d’Arte in Macerata. After completing her artistic studies, her work evolved into a path of stylistic contamination, leading her to develop a distinct personal language.
Leoni’s style is stripped down to the essential: a world of color where the surrounding reality and the human figure are depicted through a simple and immediate visual code. Her stroke is minimal—sometimes gentle, sometimes harsh—but always strikingly sincere.
Francesca Leoni speaks of life through her art, particularly in her realistic portrayals of mostly mature women. These are women marked by deep wrinkles—symbols of escape from lives dulled by pain and aging. Their faces are sculptural, reminiscent of old workshop painting traditions, where sketches and ink drawings accompanied figures born of a romantic but never destructive sensitivity.
Out of this formal rigor emerges a spontaneous impulse, a rich informality expressed through vibrant chromatic choices and diverse mixed media techniques. The result is a language that becomes even more immediate—emotional, visceral, and profoundly human.
