Giovanni Greco was born in Catania, Italy, in 1953. Following incomplete biology studies and further artistic training, he enrolled at the Scuola del Nudo in Catania. In 1980, he began his painting career, drawing initial inspiration from Magritte and later De Chirico, seeking to resolve two seemingly contradictory layers\u2014dream and objective reality\u2014into a kind of absolute reality. <\/p>\n
This is the world of \u201c\u00e8ndon\u00e8x\u00f2,\u201d a term coined by the artist (\u00e9ndon-\u00e9x\u00f2) where the gaze is clearly directed toward the self and the inner essence of things. Simultaneously, it conveys a desire to bring his painting closer to the observer’s lived experience, allowing dark, new forces to rise from the depths of the soul and gradually replace the clear, simple spaces of reason.
\nAt the core of his research is a powerful drive to resolve the great dilemmas of existence and the relationship between the self and the world. He seeks to interpret \u201cthought\u201d\u2014at times ineffable\u2014as a means to cast a new light on the fundamental problems our minds never cease to grapple with, staging visual and spiritual ultimatums. Later, he was drawn to Metaphysical painting, particularly the works of G. De Chirico, not so much for stylistic choices but for the interest expressed in compositional solidity.
