Paul Kostabi born in 1962 is a painter of Estonian origin<\/span><\/span><\/span> Born in Whittier<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Paul began very young to enter the New York art scene in the early ’80s, when “the Big Apple” was the world capital of contemporary art, thanks not only to the figure of Andy Warhol<\/strong>, but also to artists of the caliber of Keith Haring<\/strong> and Julian Schnabel, Jean-Michel Basquiat<\/strong>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Street art culture provides the context for Dubuffet’s Art Brut<\/strong>. His works are both precise and intentionally messy, creating a unique style. His first exhibition dates back to 1983, and by 1985 he was showing at Ronald Feldman\u2014then the most important gallery in NY\u2014followed by Carnegie Hall in 1991 and prestigious US galleries until 2000. In 2002, he had his first European exhibition, followed by a long series of prestigious shows worldwide. Paul is also a well-known musician; he co-founded<\/strong> several bands, including Youth Gone Mad (1981)<\/strong>, White Zombie (1984)<\/strong>, and Psychotica. In 2002 <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kostabi is also known for having given the title to the legendary painting \u201cUse Your Illusion\u201d created with his brother Mark, a work that gave the title to the famous Guns \u201cN’ Roses albums vol.1 and 2. His works are present in public collections of absolute level: Guggenheim Museum, New York, Paterson Museum, New Jersey, New England Museum of Art, Brooklyn, Connecticut Millennium Museum, Whitney Museum of Art, Video, Paper Tiger Sessions, Museion Museum, Bozen, Kingston Pop Museum, New York, MACRO, Rome,<\/strong> and have been published in\u201d Architectural Digest <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In 2015 he created the curious and amusing character “#SPRKL” (painting and sculpture), which, the following year, was included in the Pokemon GO game.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In 2002, Kostabi performed the song “Blitzkrieg Bop” at the Roseland Ballroom in New York with Dee Dee Ramone and C.J. Ramone (of the Ramones), alongside Daniel Rey and Marky Ramone. It was the last time these members of the Ramones appeared on stage together. Later, Kostabi performed and recorded “Too Tough to Die Live” with Dee Dee Ramone, and also recorded with False Alarm and Hammerbrain. In 2006, he founded a recording studio in Piermont, in New York State. Together with Dee Dee Ramone he produced a series of paintings exhibited in galleries around the world. <\/strong> In 2002 an LP on vinyl was published titled “Youth Gone Mad featuring Dee Dee Ramone”, produced by the independent record label trend is dead! records, with music by Kostabi and Dee Dee.
