Graziano Rey was born in Turin in 1953.
From a very young age, he immersed himself in the arts, sharing his early creative experiences with his brother Francesco and the painter Lorenzo Alessandri during the era of the “Soffitta Macabra”—a dark, surrealist-influenced artistic movement. He spent years exploring figurative art, while also cultivating a parallel career in the music industry.
Between 1982 and 1987, he composed several well-known TV theme songs, including for Buona Domenica, I Ragazzi della III C, La Giostra, and Ferragosto OK, and collaborated as a songwriter with various Italian singers.
In 1991–1992, Rey won both the Rino Gaetano Award and the Viareggio Prize as a singer-songwriter.
As a commentator, he made frequent appearances on the Maurizio Costanzo Show, and as an actor, participated in Candid Camera segments by Alberto Silvestri. In 1993, he published the story “3001 Spooky su Jork II”, released by Mancuso Editore. He also appeared in Sergio Martino’s film In camera mia.
Later, Rey moved to the Tonga Islands, continuing his commitment to painting.
In more recent years, his artistic path has included a notable presence at the 57th Venice Biennale, where he exhibited at the Palazzo degli Armeni with a project on the theme of “Moloch”. This body of work was later presented in Palermo and Vicenza in 2017, reaffirming his ongoing presence in the contemporary art scene.
