Description

Silvio Formichetti was born in 1969 in Pratola Peligna (Aq). The first works portray female nudes and landscapes of the Abruzzo hinterland. Interest in informal painting arrives in the mid-nineties. He approaches Pollock, American Action Painting and Dova, Afro, Vedova and Hans Hartung. In 1999 he switched to sign and gestural abstractionism and in 2011 he was invited to the 54th Venice Biennale – Italian pavilion curated by Vittorio Sgarbi. In Italy, his exhibitions include: the various participations in the “International Review of Contemporary Art” in Sulmona (various editions from 1999 to 2016); personal exhibition at the Palazzetto dei Nobili dell’Aquila, catalog edited by Carlo Fabrizio Carli and XXX edition of the “International Art Review of Sulmona” (2003); National Museum of Abruzzo de L’Aquila curated by Leo Strozzieri and Pierpaolo Bellucci and the “Francesco Gonzaga” Diocesan Museum of Mantua, curated by Maurizio Gioia and Carlo Micheli (2007); Michetti Museum of Francavilla al Mare, with critical texts by Silvia Pegoraro and XIII Stauròs Biennial of sacred art, San Gabriele Museum, Gran Sasso Island (2008); “Cromofobie”, Ex Aurum of Pescara by Silvia Pegoraro (2009); in 2010 at the Colonna Museum in Pescara, his works are combined with those of Mario Schifano in the exhibition “Silvio Formichetti – Mario Schifano. Dark. The border of color ”by Luca Beatrice. The exhibition project with the art critic Luca Tommasi took place in 2006: the works of Silvio Formichetti were exhibited at the National Museum of Musical Instruments in Rome and in 2007 at the fifteenth-century Refectory of the National Museum of the Palazzo di Venezia in Rome. In the summer of 2010 he created the exhibition “Icons of the invisible” curated by Silvia Pegoraro at the Civic Museum of Sulmona. Also in 2010 he created the solo exhibition entitled “Labyrinths of the soul” at the Palazzo Guicciardini of the Province of Milan in the Lombard capital with critical texts by Giovanni Faccenda. 2011 sees him engaged in the personal exhibition at the Chiostro del Bramante in Rome “Dialogue with the infinite” by Giovanni Faccenda, then in Albenga in the prestigious context of the Oddo Palace with a solo show curated by Paolo Levi entitled Alfabeti dell’anima. In 2012, at the Opus Gallery in Grottammare (Ap) The Big Rip, curated by Giarmmando Di Marti, then in Cassino (Fr) in the context of the Manzoni Theater presents the personal entitled “Succisa Virescit”, curated by Simona Pace and Roberto Franco. The exhibition recounts the atrocities of the Second World War experienced in the Lazio town with the bombings and reconstruction. Silvio Formichetti inaugurates in Sofia (Bulgaria) in June, at the National Gallery of Modern Art, the personal exhibition entitled “Bulgare Visioni and in Varna (Bulgaria) at the Graffity Art Gallery the personal” Chromatic Architectures “by the Italian Cultural Institute. In 2013 Silvio Formichetti is the protagonist with two important personal exhibitions. The first in Terni at the Canovaccio Gallery and the second at the Civic Gallery of Padua with “Energheia”. Both exhibitions are very successful. In November Silvio Formichetti’s personal exhibition in Brussels at the European Parliament kicks off. In the Altiero Spinelli building – “Espace Cheval” in Brussels, the exhibition “The paths of the soul” kicks off. The exhibition, curated by the artist, includes about twenty medium-format works, created specifically for the event. In 2014 Silvio Formichetti is in Pescara with “Inferno. Allegories of conscience “. The personal exhibition is held in the splendid Aurum – Fabbrica delle Idee. Curated by Lucia Arbace is “Opere”, the exhibition of historical works at the Taverna Ducale di Popoli (Pescara). In September he participates in the 41st Sulmona Prize in Sulmona (L’Aquila). Silvio Formichetti enters in 2015 in the publication PRAESTIGIUM ITALIA II the prestigious catalog that follows the international collection of Luciano Benetton “IMAGO MUNDI Luciano Benetton Collection”, exhibits with a solo show in Berlin at the InArt Werkkunst Gallery and is part of the contemporary artists of the 44th parallels collective of Albenga (GR). 2016 starts with “Evolution of silence” personal exhibition in Umbertide (PG) in the splendid Rocca. The exhibition is curated by Anna Amendolagine. Participate in the 43rd Sulmona Prize in Sulmona (L’Aquila). In 2017 on the occasion of the two thousandth anniversary of the death of “Ovid”, he presented in a personal exhibition, a corpus of 15 large works in the evocative complex of the Civic Museum of SS. Annunziata di Sulmona entitled: “Omnia Mutantur”. Also in 2017 he participated in the 44th edition of the Sulmona Prize. In April 2018 he was awarded the Certilux Award for “Made in Italy” art. “The silence that screams” Ascoli Piceno is the exhibition from 7 July to 2 September 2018. The exhibition is curated by Stefano Papetti with a preface by Vittorio Sgarbi. From 22 September to 6 October, Silvio Formichetti exhibits the “Vulcanico” exhibition curated by Anna Amendolagine at the Contempo gallery in Pergine Valsugana (Trento). From 3 to 24 November 2018 Silvio Formichetti exhibits at the Culture Center of Villa Brivio in Nova Milanese (MB). The “Informal meeting” exhibition is curated by Arch. Antonio Lombrado and Prof. Cristina Buraschi. In 2019 he was selected for the first edition of the exhibition “I mille di Sgarbi” in Cervia (Ra) at the Magazzini del Sale. The selection, the exhibition and the catalog are curated by Vittorio Sgarbi. From 31 May to 9 June 2019. He exhibits at the CristianoArtGallery, Samo Collection, Ars Interamna – Pignataro Interamna (FR) with “AB IMO PECTORE” and participates in the 46th Sulmona Prize. In 2019 he presents 15 works at the M2 Art Gallery in Naples curated by Massimo Carpentieri. In 2020, the exhibition activity continues despite the difficulties inherent in COVID-19. Participates in the 25 Cimitile Prize at the Paleochristian Basilical Complex of Cimitile flanked by the giants of Italian painting on the occasion of the sixteenth century since the death of Raphael by Giuseppe Bacci. The personal exhibition at the Civic Gallery of San Donà di Piave entitled SILVIO FORMICHETTI “IN” by Alain Chivilò. In 2022 Formichetti exhibited in Denmark: Dansk Dagbog, Udstilling med billedkunstner Silvio Formichetti, at Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon Arne Haugen Sorensen Museum (2022).
